When life gives you lemons…

Lemons are traditionally used to soothe sore throats or act as slimming packs when added to the famous black tea. Little do most people know that lemons are versatile and can be used for various home remedies. So next time you pass by the market be sure to pick a few to make cleaning and organizing easier in the home.

Clean your microwave

Fill a bowl with water, pop in half a lemon and microwave for 2-3 minutes to loosen dried food particles, making microwave cleaning easy.

Remove fridge odors

Place a small dish of bicarbonate of soda and half a lemon slice in the fridge to remove nasty odors

Polish your wooden furniture

Mix lemon juice with olive oil to recreate your own wood polish

Sanitize cutting boards

Get rid of onion, garlic, meat and fish smells by rubbing half a lemon slice on cutting boards

Keep  insects out of the kitchen

Pour some lemon juice on door thresholds and windowsills. Then squeeze lemon juice into any holes or cracks where ants are getting in. Lemons are also effective against roaches and fleas: Simply mix the juice of 4 lemons (along with the rinds) with 1/2 gallon (2 liters) water and wash your floors with it; then watch the fleas and roaches flee. They hate the smell

Bleach Delicate Fabrics

Lemon juice is milder than your regular bleach aid but no less effective. Soak your inner-wear in a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda for at least half an hour before washing

Rid clothes of mildew

The cold season is gone and some of your summer clothes packed in the closets may appear to have some blackish stains (mildew). Make a paste of lemon juice and salt and rub on the affected area, then dry clothes in the sun. Repeat process until the stain is gone.
